Gardening
Bromley Adult Education College offers a wide variety of gardening courses: non-accredited that cater for the beginner to get you started, for the more experienced gardener to give you new ideas and RHS accredited courses that lead to a formal qualification.
RHS Level 2 Certificate in Horticulture
This course comprises 2 units, which may be taken in any order and not necessarily sequentially.
Horticulture I: Sections covered in this unit: The Plant Kingdom, Plant Propagation, Outdoor Food Production, Garden Planning.
Horticulture II: Sections covered in this unit: The Root Environment and Plant Nutrition, Protected Cultivation, Horticultural Plant Selection, Establishment and Maintenance, Horticultural Plant Health Problems.
You are strongly recommended to read the Gardening Courses 2008-9 leaflet, which gives a detailed account of the RHS units, before you enrol. The leaflet may be obtained from the College, or by phoning 020 8460 0020. You are required to attend the first session and regularly thereafter. The RHS course and examination neither involve nor require practical work.
Please note that if you enrol on the RHS Level 2 Certificate in Horticulture courses, you must take the examination. If you do not take the examination, you will be charged course fees at the rate of £8 per hour.
Examination fees are included in the course fees.
Floristry
Daytime and evening non-accredited floristry and flower arranging courses are offered at Kentwood, Poverest and Widmore centres. Look out also for Saturday one-day courses.
Wildlife
If you are interested in learning about birds in the wild, you can do this by joining one of our 'Birds' courses. These courses are a mixture of classroom sessions and short walks or longer field trips.
