Sports and Leisure

What is Sport and Leisure to you? Time to relax and unwind? A way to improve your health and wellbeing? Or pure enjoyment? Whatever your reason we have something to offer.

As you can see from the extensive list below, we have courses suitable for the complete beginner to the more experienced in a variety of disciplines.

• Archery-

Level 1 - For absolute beginners to the sport, a series of steps towards obtaining the basic technique.

Level 2 - This course is for archers who have completed either BAEC Archery 1 or an archery club entry-level beginner’s course.

• Badminton-

Tuition in basic strokes and tactics of the game, for total beginners or those with reasonable ability.

• Fencing-

Come and find out more about fencing techniques and strategy. Fencing is often referred to as a physical form of chess. Our courses are open to both novices and experienced learners leading to the attainment of British Fencing Association Achievement awards.

• Keep fit-

Structured exercise classes that promote all aspects of health and fitness including, Circuit training , Keep fit for the mature woman and more.

CYQ Certificate in Fitness Instructing - Studio Exercise to Music.

Gain a fully industry-recognised YMCA qualification which will enable you pursue a career in the health and fitness industry as a fitness instuctor in the context of Exercise to Music. All applicants must attend an interview and be prepared to undertake a written assessment before enrolment.

• Medau Rhythmatic Movement

Medau Rhythmic Movement will help you improve your well-being and self-awarenesss. Each class is different and is challenging and fun.

• Tai chi Chaun-

A gentle form of physical exercise and mental discipline.

• Qi Gong-

This is an ancient Chinese system of exercises which strengthen your body, relax your mind and lift your spirits.

• Pilates-

Improve your posture, realign your body and strengthen your core stability with flowing, controlled Pilates movements.

• Yoga-

We offer two Schools of Yoga, The British School of Yoga and Iyengar Yoga. The British School of Yoga is a balanced Body and Breath exercise programme designed to work towards total fitness based on the ancient discipline of Hatha Yoga. Iyengar Yoga is taught progressively with an emphasis on detail, precision and alignment. It develops strength, balance and a feeling of wellbeing.

• Table Tennis-

For beginners to the game and those working towards competitive table tennis.

• Bridge-

Modern Acol for beginners to intermediate

• Navigation

Courses on offer include Day Skipper Shore-based Certificate, Coastal skipper and Yachtmaster Offshore (shore-based) Certificate and Marine VHF-DSC Radio Telephone Operators' Certificate.

HEALTH SCREENING

Before you start any of our physically active courses, we will ask you to complete a ‘Health Screening’ form. This is to give you the opportunity to raise any issues or concerns about your current health with your tutor, who will ensure that you get the best from your course and be able to monitor your progress. Should you have any serious concerns about your health in relation to your ability to engage in physical activity or have not been physically active for some time, please seek the advice of your doctor before enrolling. Please note, we are NOT able to offer medical advice.
